Traffic Engineer

Our traffic signal/street light maintenance contracts typically encompass all aspects associated with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of traffic signals and streetlights.
Job Description
The qualified candidate will have a BS in Civil Engineering, be a registered Traffic Engineer, and have 3-5 years of practical experience. The position offered will be based in our Novato, CA Corporate Headquarters.
Traffic Engineering Business Development

Meet regularly with potential engineering customers, primarily from our existing traffic signal maintenance base.

Promote Republic's reputation as a provider of Engineering Services.

Develop marketing literature to aid others in promoting this business.

Prepare proposals for engineering services.

Remain abreast of laws and regulations concerning engineering services.
Traffic Engineering Consulting
- Perform traffic studies.
- Make site visits and collect field data.
- Prepare plans and specifications.
- Evaluate and develop traffic signal timing and coordination plans.
- Review and comment on plans and specifications prepared by others for conformance with standards.
- Evaluate Intelligent Transportation Systems needs and make recommendations.
- Remain current with new and emerging technology as it relates to traffic engineering and traffic signal systems.
- Pursue funding opportunities.
- Prepare bills for all engineering projects.
Traffic Engineering Management and Training

Oversee the work of assistant engineer(s)

Provide training opportunities for assistant engineers and project managers.

Aid in the evaluation and hiring of new engineering staff.
Project Management of Engineering Related Construction

Support the marketing and bidding processes.

Read and clearly understand the contract, and communicate salient points to the field manager for the project in the form of a one page fact sheet.

Obtain bonds and insurance and business license if required.

Obtain necessary permits.

Provide submittals as required.

Purchase non stock items – obtain quality materials and competitive prices.

Employ and manage subcontractors.

Develop and track project schedule.

Maintain ongoing contact with the field manager.

Develop/maintain ongoing customer relationship.

Generate estimates and proposals under supervision for changes to the project scope.

Perform Job Cost Evaluation at key intervals. Communicate results with supervisor and with field management.

Process progress and final billings, including all change orders.

Submit all required project close-out paperwork.
